Design and Construction Guidelines for the use of Crushed Recycled Concrete on Local Government Roads in WA

Project Overview

There is an increasing focus on the use of recycled materials for road building. The IPWEA/WALGA Specification for the supply of recycled road base was published in 2016 and some Local Governments have been using this material on a variety of projects. There is still some reluctance to specify crushed recycled concrete (CRC) for road basecourse, due to the perceived risk of reflective cracking and uncertainty regarding design and construction practices.
This LG TRRIP project will provide guidance to inform Local Government practitioners on the appropriate design and construction practices for the use of crushed recycled concrete in Local Government road base. The practitioner’s guideline and technical report will function as a complement to the WALGA / IPWEA Specification and align with the WA State Government’s Roads to Reuse Program.
