Dynamic Load Effects of Heavy Vehicles on Pavement Performance

Project Overview

With the heavy vehicle industry requesting that bigger, heavier trucks be allowed on WA roads, it is essential that the implications of these vehicles on our roads be understood. Austroads design guidance caters for perfect world conditions and does not accommodate the dynamic load effects caused by imperfect pavements. As most of our roads are not completely smooth, research into this area is vital to ensure that our road network is designed for the future challenges of a growing number heavy vehicle road users. WARRIP undertook an investigation examining the impact of dynamic loads, magnified loads, moving loads, surface damage and tyre contact areas.
