Designing and Constructing Western Australian Roads to AusRAP Star Rating
Project Overview
AusRAP star ratings provide an objective, evidence‑based measure of road safety by assessing more than 70 road attributes that influence risk for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians. Ratings range from 1‑star (highest risk) to 5‑star (lowest risk). The project aims to:
• Improve understanding of how AusRAP star ratings and individual safety attributes relate to road design elements and road stereotypes.
• Identify the potential safety benefits of using star ratings as a guide for design and construction.
• Assess the feasibility of setting star rating design targets, including consideration of cost and safety performance.
• Determine realistic and achievable star rating targets for midblock sections and intersections separately.
