This project investigates practical pathways to reduce emissions from road construction and operations across Western Australia. It focuses on key areas such as electrification of construction vehicles and plant, decarbonisation of maintenance depots, and emerging concepts such as positive energy roads.
The project plans to deliver a series of guidance documents and information packs to support Main Roads and industry in planning and implementing low-emission practices. The outcomes aim to provide clear direction on opportunities, challenges and implementation approaches, helping inform a coordinated transition towards net zero road infrastructure.
